Today I would like to share a note of Vice-Principal Hirakata with you.
今日は、副校長の平方先生のメッセージを皆さんと共有したいと思います。
“今日の長岡授業は「生徒ゼロからの船出」というタイトルで、これまでの卒業生が向き合ったもの、越えてきたもののお話でした。
生徒A なぜ失語症になったのか
生徒B 過食と拒食の繰り返しをどのように脱したのか
生徒C 天才的な頭脳を持つゆえの苦悩とその後の変化成長
Today’s class in Nagaoka was titled “Setting Sail from Zero Students.”
It shared the stories of past graduates—what they faced, what they overcame.
Student A: Why they developed aphasia.
Student B: How they broke free from the cycle of binge eating and starvation.
Student C: The struggle of having a genius-level mind, and the changes and growth that followed.
サムガク20年の歴史を作ってきたのは、生徒自身。
そこにはたくさんの学びがありました。
It is the students themselves who have shaped Samugaku’s 20-year history.
There has been so much to learn from them.

午後はミックスポーツクラブ代表の荒川玲子さんのダンスの授業。
ダンスを1曲時間内に覚えます。
そしてそれをなんと一人ずつ発表します。
In the afternoon, we had a dance class led by Reiko Arakawa, the head of Mix Sports Club.
The students learned an entire dance routine within the given time.
Then, astonishingly, they each performed it solo.
みんなで習っている時は消極的だった生徒も、1人で発表となった途端、本気を出しました。
Even students who had been passive while learning together suddenly gave it their all once it was their turn to perform alone.
振りだけでなく、表情にもご注目。
緊張していたようですが、みんなそれぞれ素敵なパフォーマンスを見せてくれました。
It wasn’t just about the dance moves—pay attention to their expressions, too.
They looked nervous, but each one gave a wonderful performance.
一人の生徒が言いました。
「ダンスですごいなと感じたのは、表情です。表情が大切だなと思いました。」
「サムガクに入って初めてダンスをしました。いつもは喋り専門で、学園祭でも踊っていません。いい経験になりました。」
One student said:
“What impressed me most in dance was the facial expressions. I realized how important they are.”
“This was my first time dancing since I joined Samugaku. I usually just talk and never danced, even at the school festival. It was a great experience.”
最後に荒川さんは言いました。
「みんな素直！素直なのが素晴らしい。出来ても、出来なくても、誰一人逃げずに踊り切りました。全員に拍手！！」
At the end, Ms. Arakawa said:
“You’re all so honest! That honesty is amazing. Whether you danced well or not, no one ran away—everyone finished their performance. Let’s give a big round of applause to all!”
サムガクには一見、「これをして何の意味があるの？」「就職に必要？」そう思うプログラムが多くあります。
At first glance, many of Samugaku’s programs might make you wonder,
“What’s the point of doing this?” or “Is this even useful for finding a job?”
けれど、我々の目標は就職だけではありません。
彼らの「人生」を考えた時に必要なものを提案しています。
But our goal is not simply employment.
We offer what we believe is necessary when thinking about their whole life.
最近、仕事はできるけれど続かない人の相談を受けました。
理由は一目瞭然。
Recently, we were consulted about someone who was good at their job but couldn’t keep it.
The reason was immediately clear.
エチケットの問題がひとつ。
もう一つは、持ち物指示の重要性を感じておらず、言われても準備せずに参加することが多々ありました。
One issue was basic etiquette.
Another was that the person didn’t take instructions about what to bring seriously and often showed up unprepared.
つまり、仕事はできるが、仕事以前の問題があったから、仕事が続けられなかったのです。
In other words, they were capable at work—but couldn’t hold the job because of issues that came before the work itself.
知識も大切、スキルも大切。
けれどマナーも大切。素直さも大切。
Knowledge is important. Skills are important.
But so are manners. And so is honesty.
大切なものを毎日少しずつ、生活や授業の中に織り込んで、いつの間にか魅力的な人財が生まれて行く。それがサムガクです。”
At Samugaku, we weave important things into daily life and classes, bit by bit.
And before anyone realizes it, students grow into people full of unique charm and value.
That’s what Samugaku is all about.
