I hope you are well. Here is too cold. Soon we will have winter holidays. Students are happily busy with all the activities. A good teamwork, a tangible friendship, a good communication atmosphere are among the students and those are at work indeed.
Today our Director Mr. Nagaoka continued his lecture on Empathy. Empathy is vital in order to build understanding and friendship. With lots of episodes of his experiences, he spoke to students.
みなさんこんにちは。寒い日々が続きますが、みなさんは元気にお過ごしでしょうか。もうすぐ冬期休暇になります。生徒たちは毎日忙しくも楽しく活動しています。良いチームワーク、確かな協力関係、良いコミュニケーションの雰囲気が生徒たちのあいだにあり、それがうまく働いています。
今日は長岡理事長による『共感』についての授業の続きです。相互理解や協力関係を気付くためには、共感は必要不可欠です。理事長は、自身の経験に基づいた数多くのエピソードを生徒に語りました。
Of course we can choose to be ourselves ‘alone.’ However humans are meant to be in community and in society. For that, Empathy is essential to know ourselves and to know others. By having ’empathy,’ we can have rooms in our hearts to form our uniqueness and our identities. Mr. Nagaoka made us laugh and smile and think.
もちろん、自ら『孤立』を選ぶこともできるでしょう。しかし、人間は社会や組織のなかで生きていくようにできています。そのため、自分や他者を知るために共感は必要なのです。『共感』を抱くことで、私たちの心の中に、自己の独自性、アイデンティティを形成するための、余裕を持つことができるようになります。長岡先生は笑いをとったり笑顔を引き出しつつも。考えさせる授業をしてくれました。
One thing which speaks to my heart is that ‘a simple communication isn’t easy at all.’ As for me, communication is not that hard. For others, it is quite hard. I learn to have ’empathy’ about differences of individuals in communication and expression.
授業で話されたことのひとつは、『単純なコミュニケーションは決して簡単ではない』ということです。自分にとってはコミュニケーションは大変というほどではなくても、他の人にとってはとても困難ということもあります。コミュニケーションと表現における個人の違いについて、共感を持つことを学びました。
‘I think, therefore I am,’ says Rene Descartes. Today Mr. Nagaoka said, ‘only human can think and feel, not animal.’ To think and to feel, empathy will help us in a positive way.
ルネ・デカルトは『我思う、故に我あり』と言いました。今日長岡先生は、人間は考えたり感情を持つ唯一の動物である、とも言いました。考えたり感じたりするときに、共感はよりよい形で私たちを助けてくれます。

After sessions, students started preparation for Xmas party on 21st. Some went shopping and some did handcrafts. Everyone worked each part.
学級会のあとは、生徒たちは21日のクリスマス会に向けての準備を始めました。何人かが買い出しに行き、他の人は工作をしました。全員が協力して作業にあたりました。
With everyday program here in our school, students are learning how to think in positive and how to see things objectively. By knowing who they are and by accepting the way they are, students can have more confidence in what they are and what they can do.
