There are good or bad days. Today is, for me, a good day indeed. Students grow in a certain area.  My day begins with a couple of counselling sessions of the students.  Students speak out of their hearts.  Their struggles tell me that each student learns responsibilities and to take them accordingly.

Regardless of their stuffed emotions, students come to school.  It reminds me NOT fail to recognize all the efforts the students are making in their day-to-day life.  Above all, students are getting to know themselves and learn to accept what they are.

To express feelings and to have those feelings explained verbally are a tough call for many of the students.  Yet, students are learning how to express in one way or the other.  And students are experiencing differences in opinions and worldviews.

It is quite challenging for students to recognize differences and as well as to maintain their standpoints.  Yet, students are learning to have good thick-skinned in order to enter society.

Today program begins with “Choice Study” such as learning English and doing chores with a piece of good rhythm music.  Students’ involvements are truly heartening for our teaching staff.  With wide smiles, students were conversing in English in my Choice Study class.

Through changes and smiles of the students, my happiness increases, my care expands and my heart makes bigger.  I do believe that every staff feels like me.  We struggle when students struggle.  We are happy when the students happy.  We become like them and we work together and solve things together.  No student is left alone at all in samugaku.

This morning, students are writing ‘thank-you-letter’ to all the lecturers of the school year (2018-19) as the school year is ending.  We are so grateful to many who share their knowledge and experiences, who give their precious time for the students and for samugaku.

This morning, Saito san is teaching students to know their interests and hobbies.  One of our school objectives is TO PLAY.  Life is tough.  Yet, we will not miss having the time or chance to PLAY.

Saito san is drawing all the attention of students to collect their hobbies and have them written down on their notebooks.  Of course, some of the hobbies may be so impossible to actually do them.  Yet, Saito san encourages the students just to write down every hobby popped in their minds.

As a result, students wrote down more than one hobbies.  Students are given time to tour around the desks and read others’ hobbies afterwards. Students are instructed to narrow down their hobbies by choosing one to three hobbies when they got back to their seats.

In the end, Saito san asks the students to collect or imagine the reasons or what makes their hobbies impossible.  He then explains the details and management of money and time for hobbies.  Hobbies make us relaxed and give us happiness.  Yet, hobbies are a part of life, but not life itself.  So, it is not a must for everyone to have hobbies.

Hobbies which cost less and are less time-consuming are introduced by Saito san:  watching the movie, reading (going to the library and buying books), writing a diary, walking, and workout. As some of the students are struggling not having hobbies and not able to have hobbies, the class reaches all students without fail.

In the afternoon, students speak out the popular words of the year freely and have them written on the green board.  Here you go, ‘…’ is the most popular word of the year!

In the end of the program, our director Nagaoka talked about donations and how samugaku has been blessed by many people.  We all are somehow imperfect.  Yet, those imperfection, someone helps us.  To have a grateful heart is very important.  We are helped and sustained. In near future, let us be the one who helps others who are in need.

Thank you so much for reading!
