Dear all blog readers, 読者の皆さんこんにちは
I am certain that you all had a great happy new year kickoff with the families and loved ones. I did have a great time with my families and loved ones here in Japan and in Australia. There was the worst bush fire in Australia when I was there. In the midst of crisis and regardless of situations, people come together and work together and overcome all the obstacles together. I was mesmerized by the standards of humanity and care there in Australia. 皆さんも家族や愛する人と素晴らしい新年を迎えられたことと思います。私も日本とオーストラリアで家族や愛する人たちと素晴らしい時間を過ごしました。私が滞在していた時、オーストラリアでは過去最悪の山火事が発生していました。そんな危機的状況の中でも、人々は一緒に協力して全ての障害を乗り越えています。私はオーストラリアで思いやりや気遣いというものに感動しました。
In the morning hours, students got to pick choice studies and kokorozashi and LHR. For students, choosing things in a given- time/ limited time is tough. However, students seem relaxed and could make choices for Choice Study and Kokorozashi in this new year 2020. Each student is unique and beautifully growing here in Samugaku. Differences are recognized here in Samugaku and students are encouraged to apply their talents and gifts on the daily basis. Students find meanings and dreams by being with staffs and students themselves. I feel HOPE for myself and for all the students. 午前の時間では、生徒たちはチョイスタと志、ロングホームルームをしました。生徒にとって与えられた時間、限られた時間で物事を選択するのは大変なことです。けれど生徒たちはリラックスしながら2020年新年のチョイスタと志の内容を選んでいるように見えました。ここサムガクで、生徒たちは皆それぞれのやり方で、美しく成長しています。サムガクではそれぞれ違うことが認められていて、生徒たちはそれぞれの才能を日常生活に生かす勇気をもらえています。生徒たちはスタッフや他の生徒と一緒に過ごすことで、生きる意味や夢を見つけていきます。私も自分にとっても全ての生徒に対しても希望を感じています。
New students are being added this year as well. Senior students are accustomed to making friends with new students. To my surprise, students linger at school even after school. More or less, there is a tendency that students want to go home or go back to their rooms right after school. However 2020 brings a fresh air. Many students linger (stay behind) to chat with students or with staff even after school. 今年も新しい生徒がやってきました。先輩の生徒たちは新しい生徒と友達になることにも慣れています。驚いたことに生徒たちは放課後も学校に残ります。多かれ少なかれ、生徒は学校が終わるとすぐに家や自分の部屋に帰りたがる傾向があります。けれど2020年は新しい空気を吹き込んでくれました。多くの生徒が放課後も生徒同士やスタッフとおしゃべりするために居残っています。
Speaking out what we want to say and being alright with other individuals are challenging even for staff. However, Samugaku is giving all the opportunity that students can speak their minds and students can connect with other individuals. 自分の言いたいことを言葉にして、他人に対して寛容であることは、スタッフにとっても難しいことです。けれどサムガクで生徒たちには自分の考えを話す機会があり、そして生徒は他人とつながることが出来るのです。
Allow me to share a few fine experiences I have this week:
- Student 1: A student couldn’t come out of his room for a few days. But now he is with me in a staff room and talking with me and we are drinking tea together now. Life indeed is so beautiful. I am so grateful to all the staff and to samugaku because all sorts of students find their place. Here, I feel unconditional love of his parents towards their son. (lunch hour)
- Student 2: A student who couldn’t talk with others IS now talking with others. Besides he is determined to try a part time job. Now he finished his resume. He is making one step toward his dream. His parents have been so great. His parents are always ready to work with school and staffs. We can do many things for students by support and trust of parents.
- Student 3: A student who couldn’t leave his room when he came to school four years ago. However, this year, he is living in a flat and enjoys cooking for one person, says he. Samugaku makes changes in students’ lives. I am more than happy to see students walking towards a healthy independent individual.
今週の素敵な出来事をいくつか紹介させてください。
- 生徒１：一人の生徒は数日間自分の部屋から出ることが出来ませんでした。けれど現在はスタッフルームで私と一緒にいて、おしゃべりしながらお茶を飲んでいます。人生というのは実に美しいものです。様々なタイプの生徒が居場所を見つけることができます。だから私は全てのスタッフ、そしてサムガクに本当に感謝しています。ここでは、両親から息子である彼への無償の愛を感じています。
- 生徒２：他人と話すことが出来なかった生徒が今では話すことが出来ています。さらにアルバイトに挑戦することも決意しました。それに今彼は履歴書を書き上げました。夢に向かって一歩ずつ進んでいるのです。彼の両親もとても素晴らしいです。ご両親は常に学園やスタッフに協力出来るよう準備していてくださっています。そんなご両親の支援と信頼のおかげで、私たちは生徒のためにたくさんのことが出来ます。
- 生徒３：入学した四年前は部屋からでれなかった生徒が、今ではアパートで一人暮らしをして、自炊を楽しんでると言います。サムガクは生徒の生活の中に変化を生み出します。生徒たちが健全で自立した個人へと歩みを進めているのを見ることは幸せ以外のなにものでもありません。
In the afternoon, we all went to Horiuchi farm. There are animals such as chicks, roosters, goats, and ponies. Students enjoyed playing with animals. Students help Horiuchi farm cleaning and separating beans. After that, we all enjoyed tea together and a good chat. Today is beautiful indeed.
午後、私たちは堀内農園に行きました。そこにはヒナやニワトリ、ヤギやポニーといった動物たちがいます。生徒たちは動物たちと楽しく遊んでいました。そして清掃や豆こなしを手伝いました。そしてその後、一緒にお茶をして楽しくおしゃべりしました。今日は本当に素敵な１日でした。
